Guyanese Vulnerable Communities Capacities Strengthening Project
The general purpose of this project is to strengthen the capacities of civil society representing marginalized groups in Guyana, especially the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD), in an effort to effect key social, legal and policy changes in Guyana which advance and promote full equality, security and citizenship for these communities. 


Public Policy Research Consultant (Commonwealth)


Description of Assignment:
The Public Policy Consultant (Commonwealth) is responsible for spearheading consultation with representatives of civil society groups serving vulnerable communities in Guyana. Working with the Public Policy Research Consultant (Caribbean) Consultant, the Public Policy Research (Commonwealth) Consultant through extensive research, and consolidation of a Baseline Study and Mapping Study, will present their findings for consideration by representatives of the target communities to ensure that their needs and objectives are adequately aligned and reflected in the ultimate design of the follow-up training programme and mentoring activities. The Consultants will also conduct a two-day consultation, convened in Georgetown, with key stakeholders. This meeting will also review preliminary findings of the research.

Duration of Assignment:                            3 Months

Expected Start Date:                                 January 4, 2015

Requirements:


  •  Available to work remotely and virtually;
  • Be based in or able to travel to Guyana for on-site work; and
  • Reliable and consistent internet access, especially email and VOIP applications.

Qualifications:
A post-graduate qualification from an accredited university in Political Science, Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences or other relevant field.

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on public policy issues in the Commonwealth region;
  • Experience working with NGOs on advocacy groups in the Commonwealth region;
  • Knowledge and experience working on human rights, legal and social justice issues;
  • Proven research capabilities;  
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills;
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with excellent demonstrated teamwork, coordination and facilitation skills;
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite.

Description of Assignment
The Public Policy Research Consultant (Caribbean) will conduct consultations with representatives of civil society groups serving vulnerable groups in Guyana. Resource Mobilization Strategy Consultant



Description of Assignment
The project requires a consultant to provide capacity-building services in the area of resource mobilization for SASOD. The consultant will develop strategies to identify new sources of funding, diversify the funding base and increase individual donors to strengthen the organization’s work and impact. The Resource Mobilization Strategy will include a comprehensive five-year plan to increase and diversify funding from governmental, inter-governmental, foundational and individual donors.

Duration of Assignment:          3 months

Requirements

Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in project development, management or evaluation;
  • Solid understanding of and experience working on fundraising in the Caribbean region;
  • Knowledge of or experience working on human rights and social justice issues;
  • Competence in developing and writing action plans;
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills;
  • Proven work experience in evaluating  and applying best practices;
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with excellent demonstrated teamwork, coordination and facilitation skills;
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite. 



Human Resources Policy Consultant


Description of Assignment
The project requires a consultant to provide capacity-building services in the area of human resources. The consultant will facilitate the development of a Human Resources Policy for SASOD, as a comprehensive plan that will cover all aspects of SASOD’s human resources functions, including training and development.

Duration of Appointment:                           3 months

Governance Research Consultant



Description of Assignment
The project requires a governance research consultant that will provide a detailed analysis on how public-policy positions are formulated in governmental processes in Guyana. The consultant will also conduct a mapping study which will be used as inputs for consultations with stakeholders, development of public policy advocacy training and the development of an advocacy strategy and plan.

Duration of Assignment:             3 months
